Integrated Water Management Course

Rainwater captured on the roof of the administration building at the Environmental Nature Center (ENC) in Newport Beach, Calif. is routed to a scupper. The water travels down the chain into the large dish with stones, then diverted to four 15-ft. deep dry wells. The water eventually reaches the detention basin. The front area of the ENC is sloped to keep runoff on site, filtered through native grasses and absorbed by the rain gardens in the parking lot and to the west
of the lot.

Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) announces the premiere of a professional course on integrated water management principles and technologies on June 1, 2010 at its regional Green Roof and Wall Conference in Washington, D.C.

Working in close partnership with the American Society of Irrigation Consultants, GRHC has assembled a diverse expert committee
to advance the knowledge and practice of integrated site and building water management, i.e., how to capture, treat, store and use a wide variety of water sources within, on and around a building and adjacent site.

The course is a component of the continuing education requirements of the new Green Roof Professional (GRP) accreditation program launched in 2009. The GRP accreditation is supported by four professional development courses offered in different locations throughout North America. GRHC training is approved for continuing education units by the U.S. Green Building Council, the American Institute of Architects and various regional professional associations.
