Insuring Your Snow Removal Company

In the winter months many landscape companies also provide snow removal services to help boost their revenue, but in order to keep the company profitable having the proper insurance is a must.

There are many types of insurance to cover your business and employees, but the absolute essentials are property, life, health, liability, and worker's compensation.

Property insurance covers your buildings, business personal property, office fixtures, furniture, garage or shop equipment and tools. If your business is home-based it is smart to look into adding a "rider" or a home-based business policy.

Life and Health insurance policies vary; consulting with an agent to determine the needs of your company is best.

Liability insurance covers people who may be found liable for negligence. It will reimburse you or your customers for damage to their property, and injury to people on their premises after you have performed your work.

Worker's Compensation is required in all but four states. The premiums are determined by past employee injury expenses and current payroll.

The Snow & Ice Management Association (SIMA) can provide assistance in selecting the right insurance for you and your company. To learn more about SIMA please visit sima.org.
