As a show of the green industry's commitment to fostering the next generation of professionals, the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association recently hosted the 2015 Excellence in Landscape Awards Banquet. And in a show of support by the institutions that are training this generation, the College of DuPage proudly announced that seven of their horticulture students were among those that earned honors for their talented landscape designs.

The seven recipients from the school located in Glen Ellyn, 25 miles west of downtown Chicago, won in the following categories:

• 3D Landscape Design Computer Generated Presentation: Jorge Castillo, First Place; Jomarie Avino, Second Place; and Nahum Castillo, Third Place
• Computer-Assisted Design – CAD/DynaSCAPE: Sergio Canales, Second Place
• Hand-Drawn: Rosemarie Freeman, Third Place; Nancy Mstowski, Sixth Place; and Brandon Spencer, Seventh Place

The event, which is held once a year, demonstrates students' best work in landscape design. It is open to all two- and four-year colleges in Illinois.

The Horticulture Program at the College of DuPage provides essential and advanced education to prepare its graduates for successful entry into the working world. The program also has a one-acre outdoor landscape learning lab where students can gain real hands-on experience.
