Last summer?EUR??,,????'???s drought was a wakeup call for the state of Illinois. The state has begun to develop regional water plans based on the regional system used in Texas. Planning will begin before the end of the year in two regions identified most at risk by a state water plan task force.
Illinois currently uses 20 billion gallons of water a day, and demand is expected to increase 28 percent over the next two decades. The state committed $1 million to research to help create a 40-year water usage model.
