The Texas Department of State Health Services said the insecticide spraying, from specially equipped twin-engine planes, took place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
DSHS identified one dozen targeted counties: Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Newton and Orange.
The agency says the program, operated by Clarke Mosquito Control and Dynamic Aviation, will involve planes flying as low as 300 feet.
The Environmental Protection Agency-approved insecticide is Dibrom, used previously for public health mosquito control programs.
