IFLA Elects New Zealander President

Diane Menzies, elected president of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA). She was selected by IFLA delegates representing 60 countries.

Dr. Diane Menzies, of Christchurch, New Zealand, takes up her two year posting as president of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) at the ASLA Show in Minneapolis, Oct. 6-10. About 4,000 landscape architects are expected to attend the conference.

?EUR??,,????'??Diane?EUR??,,????'???s appointment will focus even greater world attention on the natural and cultural landscape values found in New Zealand and the skills of our New Zealand landscape architects,?EUR??,,????'????EUR??,,????'??? said Renee Lambert, president of the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects (NZILA)

Dr Menzies is a commissioner with the Environment Court, past president of the NZILA and has been secretary general of IFLA for four years.

?EUR??,,????'??We want to pursue a global landscape charter to protect landscape values, nature and culture to meet the diversity of landscapes throughout the world. I want to see landscape as an important agenda item for the World Bank, UNESCO and governments around the world,?EUR??,,????'?? Dr Menzies said. ?EUR??,,????'??Sustainability, integrated water planning and community values are issues that have increasing importance in New Zealand and at a global level.?EUR??,,????'??
