IECA Highlights California Groundwater Agency

The WRD ARC is an example of innovation in green infrastructure
by Staff

The WRD provides over four million people with groundwater in Los Angeles County.

The International Erosion Control Association (IECA) recently showcased the Water Replenishment District (WRD) Albert Robles Center for Water Recycling and Environmental Learning (ARC). The WRD is the largest groundwater agency in California, and serves South Los Angeles County, a region known for its dry weather conditions and large population. ARC was built in 2019 and received the United States Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum certification, an award that only 5% of buildings in the U.S. retain. The facility features integrated stormwater management, with things like a pervious pavement parking lot, five bioretention basins around the site, an underground treatment and infiltration system, and even a green roof. ARC also has a multitude of educational aspects incorporated, where LEED and Eco Gardener tours take place to teach visitors about the many systems in play at the facility.
