SPRINGDALE, Utah - A housing subdivision consisting of 15 luxury insulating concrete form (ICF) homes is being constructed in Springdale, right next to the grand views offered by Zion National Park. Developer Allan Staker is designing the ICF homes in his Gifford Park project to blend into the surrounding landscape. Exteriors for the homes are reminiscent of a 60-year-old masonry style, incorporating large slabs of Navajo sandstone that are broken into manageable sizes. Each hand-crafted stone helps coordinate the look of the housing development with the surrounding mountainscape. Roofs are made of stucco and concrete tiles, fireproof and colored to match nearby outcroppings of rock. The homes will be heated and cooled with a geo-exchange system in order to create lower utility bills in combination with the ICF walls. The largest Gifford Park home measures 3,500 sq. ft.
