The International Association of Lighting Designers has announced its 2011 Board of Directors with Katherine Abernathy continuing as president.
Abernathy, principal lighting designer at Rhode Island-based Abernathy Lighting Design Inc., has for the last 21 years studied and applied the Art and Sciences of the Illuminating Engineering world. The project types she has worked on through out her career included museums - science centers, children's museums, entertainment venues, visitor centers, theme parks, offices, classrooms, retail, retail malls, health facilities, showrooms, convention centers, restaurants, office facilities and exterior building lighting.
Kevin Theobald is the association's president-elect. Theobald has worked for the past 15 years for major London based design practices during which time he has been associated with a number of award winning schemes. He has set up his own independent lighting design practice, and is personally responsible for design direction and business development. He has 30 years experience in lighting, with a background in theatre and museum lighting.
Members of the 2011 IALD Board include: James Youngston, Kenneth Douglas, Gilberto Franco, David Ghatan, Barbara Horton, Andreas Schulz, and Suzan Tillotson. Peter Raynham has been named the president's selected director and Marsha Turner is the IALD executive vice president.
Founded in 1969 and based in Chicago, Ill., the International Association of Lighting Designers is an internationally recognized organization dedicated solely to the concerns of independent, professional lighting designers. The IALD strives to set the global standard for lighting design excellence by promoting the advancement and recognition of professional lighting designers.
Value Lighting designers are a tremendous resource of innovative, practical and economically viable lighting solutions. They understand the role of lighting in architectural and interior design and utilize their extensive experience and knowledge of lighting equipment and systems to enhance and strengthen design.
