Walpole uses many different manufacturers of PVC materials, and through years of experience, knows which one to choose for the specific product that they are handcrafting.

Cellular PVC is sold in 4' x 8' pieces or larger. To fabricate a product that is thicker than 1.25", sheets must be laminated together and then cut or turned. When you cut, router, sand or mill the outer coating of cellular PVC, you expose the open cell structure of the material. It is like tiny foam that is solid, but can catch pollen, dirt and grime. It feels rough to the touch.

Walpole Outdoors" advanced inline two-coat system uses an airless spraying operation that helps the cellular structure become more uniform and smooth. This, along with sanding and drying between each coat, ensures quality paint coverage.

The company has also invested in proprietary dies for more of its standard products. Walpole"s craftsmen use proprietary extrusions made from cellular PVC material. These have a rigid outside surface for a smoother touch and have no lamination seams. They can be cleaned in a breeze. Among the proprietary cellular PVC extrusions in Walpole"s arsenal are pergola lumber extrusions (for both kit and custom designs) of 2x2, 2x4, 2x6, 2x8, and 4x8 beams, joists and laths.

For pergola structures, Walpole uses hefty, classically proportioned beams, joists and laths. Walpole Outdoors offers many standard pergola choices, from straight-top to arched-top pergolas with round or square columns in various sizes. Many standard pergola sizes and styles are ready to ship in a few weeks. They're easy for builders to install quickly and economically. Pergolas are pre-engineered, with posts that come equipped with an inner steel pipe for concrete footings. Easy, bolt-through construction maintains the beam system. Joists are pre-notched for speedy installation.
