How About A Little Credit? UConn Undergoes Accreditation Process HAMDEN, CT In April, the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) accreditation team conducted a full accreditation visit at the University of Connecticut (UConn) to determine whether or not to grant the university ASLA accreditation for their Landscape Architecture program. Over the past few months, UConn has moved closer to ASLA accreditation by completing a few essential tasks. Back in October, students began to move into newly constructed studio space even while construction was still going on. The studio also houses classroom/jury presentation room, reference library space, model area, and a computer lab. In November, a pre-accreditation visit was conducted by Anthony Bauer, FASLA, an associate professor of land reclamation at Michigan State University. Bauer noted the positive attitude of the program, its broad-based support from the department and college, quality and commitment of faculty, student body, and quality of physical environment. A self-evaluation report completed in March, was put together after student documentation for curriculum improvements. Faculty and administration evaluated long-range plans of the program and proposed possible course changes, while adjustments in university policies and procedures were also presented by the support staff. Most recently however, a full accreditation visit was completed at the campus by Dan Donelin, educator and team chair, Richard Schneider, academic administrator, and Richard Powell, practitioner. The team was sent to review student work, alumni information, and course syllabi. As LASN goes to press, there is still no word yet on whether or not UConn's Landscape Architecture program has been accredited. LASN will keep you updated.
