Housing Construction on the Rise

Housing Numbers Continue Positive Trend

After declining for the first five months of 2020, the housing market has a seen continuous rise since June.

The final housing construction numbers for 2020 were released and they were continued the positive trend seen throughout the year. At a seasonally adjusted rate in December, privately-owned housing unites authorized by building permits were at 1,709,000 which us a 4.5% increase from November and a 17.3% increase from December 2019. The rise in housing permits has been an upward trend since the numbers last decreased in May.

Additionally, housing starts have also increased with a 5.8% and 5.2% rise from November and December 2019 respectively. For the year of 2020 it was estimated that 1.38 million housing were started which is greater than the 1.29 from 2019. Lastly, the final numbers for housing completions saw a 15.9% jump from November and an 8.0% increase from December 2019.
