Housing Completions Still Need to Recover

Single-family housing completions in June were at a rate of 436,000; this is 0.0 percent (???????(R)???????+???????(R)??????oe???????(R)???????+???????(R)????????14.5 percent)* equal to the revised May rate of 436,000. The June rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 89,000.


Privately-owned housing completions in June were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 535,000. This is 1.7 percent (±12 percent)* below the revised May estimate of 544,000 and is 39.3 percent (±6.6 percent) below the June 2010 rate of 881,000. Single family units fell 36.3 percent and 5 or more units dropped 52.9 percent.

The Northeast was the region that fared the best with a decrease of 15.9 percent overall and 33.8 percent for single units. The West fared the worst with an overall drop of 60.3 percent and decrease of 47.3 percent for single units.
