Housing Completions Fall in November

From November of 2009 to November 2010, it decreased 39.6 percent, with decreases of 22.3 percent for single units and 73.3 percent for 5 or more units. The November rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 73,000.

Privately-owned housing completions in November were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 513,000.  This is 14.1 percent (±10.9 percent) below the revised October estimate of 597,000 and is 39.6 percent (±8.6 percent) below the November 2009 rate of 850,000.

Single-family housing completions in November were at a rate of 436,000; this is 10.1 percent (±11.6 percent)* below the revised October rate of 485,000.

In the past year the Northeast was the region that fared the best with an  overall decrease of 35.3 percent for completions and increase of 3.8 percent for single units. The West fared the worst with an overall decrease of 51 percent and drop of 40.8 percent for single units.
