The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI) today applauded the U.S. House of Representatives for taking action to update a government database that helps design professionals and builders generate “green” construction projects that reduce stormwater pollution.
The database, created and managed by EPA, is in need of a renovation to reflect the latest, state-of-the-art data, research and applications in water quality protection.
The House Appropriations Committee report provision, advocated by ICPI in consultation with clean water policy experts, recognizes the importance of the EPA database and urges the agency to conduct a comprehensive update. It also recommends that the agency contribute data to update international best management practices databases.
ICPI has a strong interest in the EPA database because “permeable” pavement using interlocking concrete paver technology is rapidly emerging as a leading means to reduce stormwater runoff and pollution, plus provide other environmental benefits.
