Seeing opportunity in Home Depot’s failed foray into landscaping specialty stores, Ram Realty Services has paid the retailer $22 million for 11 sites in the Atlanta and Dallas areas.
Home Depot launched its Landscape Supply chain in 2002 but decided last year to close the stores. Landscape Supply included a greenhouse and sold plants, fertilizer, pavers and irrigation supplies, and rented tools.
Landscape Supply locations are in fast-growing suburbs, said Ken Baye, a senior vice president at Ram, which plans to resell the Dallas locations and a few of the Atlanta-area sites, keeping others for development projects.
The properties are essentially vacant land, Baye said, because the sites are 4.5 acres to 9 acres but each contains an empty store measuring only about 12,000 square feet.
In all, Ram Realty bought 74.4 acres from Home Depot
