Autonomous Shuttle Bus is Said to Reduce Accidents and Gas Consumption by Staff
The Hawaii Department of Transportation (DOT) has revealed their new all-electric autonomous passenger shuttle bus at the annual meeting of the Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (WASHTO). This innovative collaboration with the University of Hawaii at Mānoa marks a significant milestone in transportation technology, with potential implications for city design and planning. What WHASTO calls the first of its kind, the autonomous shuttle bus, equipped with advanced technologies, will not only enhance mobility but also contribute to the state's goal of transitioning to an all-electric vehicle fleet by 2035. The AV Star All-Electric Autonomous Min-E Bus, developed in partnership with the University of Hawaii, is designed to accommodate up to 14 passengers, including individuals with disabilities. It incorporates the Perrone Robotics "TONY" autonomous system, ensuring compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Furthermore, this vehicle will be the first to utilize Hawaii's Autonomous Vehicle Testing law, allowing it to be tested on public roads.
