The Hawai'i Chapter is pleased to announce the 2022 recipient of the David T. Woolsey Scholarship: Christine Flauta! Congratulations, Christine! The Hawai'i Chapter wishes you all the best in your future achievements in landscape architecture.

This scholarship was established in memory of David T. Woolsey, an alumnus of California Polytechnic University and former principal in the firm of Woolsey, Miyabara and Associates. It is meant to advance Hawai'i landscape architecture students' education and professional development.

Paul Weissich Education Center Dedication at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden

On July 30th, Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden's visitor center was dedicated as the Paul Weissich Education Center. Landscape architect and ASLA Hawaii Po'okela Award recipient Paul Weissich was Director of the Honolulu Botanical Gardens from 1957 to 1989. His visionary leadership combined our five Botanical Gardens and set the foundation for them to flourish into the exceptional botanical resources that they are today! Celebrating its 40th Anniversary, Ho'omaluhia's gallery has a wonderful display recognizing Paul's work and his planning and design efforts with Army Corp of Engineers from the very beginning of Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden. Paul remained very active with the Honolulu Botanic Gardens through many decades of volunteerism. The gallery will be highlighting his work through the end of August.
