A new platform called the African American Design Nexus (AADN) has been introduced by Harvard's Graduate School of Design (GSD), where a group of students began amassing a list of black designers whose work is often overlooked.

The AADN is an online collection of people, places and projects that represent the influence of black designers in the United States. The entries celebrate the work of African American designers, including Landscape Architect Walter Hood. Each entry on the platform comes with a thorough profile of the person, place or project, and is tagged with discipline and theme.

The project was spearheaded by members of the GSD's African American Student Union, hoping to provide a resource to celebrate black designers and encourage black students to achieve success within the field. The group cited the low numbers of black designers who have historically entered into design careers as reason for creating the database. For instance, according to the AADN site, the estimated number of licensed black landscape architects is 59, representing just .3% of the 16,400 licensed landscape architects practicing in the country.
