Hal Borland is credited with the popular saying, "No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn."
In landscape architecture, the landscape indeed comes alive in the spring. While spring began on March 20, the season comes to life on Easter.
Easter is commonly connected with egg hunts held outside amongst the landscape and freshly bloomed plantings. Further, a springtime-focused design site, no matter how small (like a residential project or multi-family development) or big (like parks, playgrounds, and public sites), makes creating a sense of community in the design valuable.
According to The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, Frederick Law Olmsted - who is regarded as the father of landscape architecture - was born in the spring on April 26, 1822. Olmsted's work focused on the value of public parks and open spaces which can be seen throughout designs across the country as many were inspired by his work.
From all of us at LASN, we want to wish you a blessed and holy Easter.
