The International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) has announced that Günther Vogt - founder of VOGT Landschaftsarchiteckten with offices in Zurich, Berlin, London, and Paris - has been awarded the 2025 Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Award (SGJA).

The IFLA jury said that this Lichtenstein-born Landscape Architect "is one of the most influential Landscape Architects and his lifetime achievements, both in practice and theory, have had a profound and lasting impact on the global advancement of landscape architecture."

Vogt is well known for bridging academia and practice, emphasizing the profession's cultural significance, and major works such as the Tate Modern in London, the Masoala Rain Forest Hall Towers at the Zürich Zoo, and the European Central Bank in Frankfurt, among many others.

Some ideas he is known for include the phrase "Ecology is Invisible," which he unpacks in this interview with Landzine about how ecology does not need to be visibly obvious in order to play an important part in a project's design, nor does visible ecology automatically indicate good design.

His firm also runs VogtTV, where Landscape Architects can take advantage of educational and project-based videos in both English and German.

As the highest award the IFLA can bestow, the SGJA annually recognizes one Landscape Architect whose work has made a significant positive impact on society, the environment, and the advancement of the profession.
