U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-Colo.) has reintroduced HR 2336, the Green Resources for Energy Efficient Neighborhoods Act in the House of Representatives.

Aka the GREEN Act, the bill provides incentives to lenders to provide lower interest loans to ?EUR??,,????'??encourage energy efficiency and conservation and development of renewable energy sources for housing, commercial structures, and other buildings and to create sustainable communities.?EUR??,,????'??

The House passed Perlmutter?EUR??,,????'???s GREEN Act in September 2008 as part of HR 6899, the Comprehensive Energy Security and Consumer Protection Act, however, the Senate took no action on the legislation. This year, the reintroduced GREEN Act is assigned to the House Financial Services Committee, which Perlmutter is a member of. A hearing on the bill is likely to take place later this summer.

The bill includes a provision to require the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to consult with the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) in providing such sustainable practices as green roofs, tree canopy coverage and site planning/green space techniques for housing units to become more energy efficient.

?EUR??,,????'??This legislation proves it is easy to be green,?EUR??,,????'?? said Congressman Perlmutter. He believes the bill can help revitalize the economy by making energy efficiency practices more affordable, accessible and achievable by consumers, businesses and government.

Nancy Somerville, CEO of ASLA, was quoted in Rep. Perlmutter?EUR??,,????'??? press release in support of the legislation.

?EUR??,,????'??As Americans face extraordinary energy costs, the GREEN Act incorporates landscape architecture practices like site planning, targeted tree plantings and other green infrastructure techniques that will not only lower monthly utility bills, but lay the groundwork for more healthy, sustainable communities around the country. Congressman Perlmutter?EUR??,,????'???s forward-thinking legislation will make affordable and sustainable housing accessible to everyone.?EUR??,,????'??
