The University of Oregon is offering a new one-year graduate certificate program in sustainable practices called the Oregon Leadership in Sustainability (OLIS) program.
''The program focuses on a wide spectrum of sustainability issues in cities,'' said OLIS Faculty Director Rich Margerum. ''There are jobs out there that haven't been created yet, and programs like this prepare students for that.''
The program includes four required core courses: Ecological Design, Sustainability Theory, Green Cities, Energy and Carbon and Ecological Design. The program also involves a year-long practicum with a client organization on a sustainability.
''The program is a way for students to understand the technical language of planning and policy issues,'' explains Anya Dobrowolski, OLIS program assistant.
