The park space on Governor's Island, in which the teams of landscape architects are competing to design, has views of the harbor and Statue of Liberty.

The Governor’s Island Preservation and Education Corp. recently narrowed the list from dozens of entries down to five teams of landscape architects who are competing for the right to design the approximate 87 acres of park space on Governor’s Island.

Following a series of public forums and presentations, a designer will be selected in the summer of 2007.

Some of the finalists include New York-based Field Operations, partnered with British-based Eyre Architects. Field has completed projects such as Lake Ontario Park in Toronto.

New York’s Ramus Ella Architects; New York-based Ramus Ella Architects/Paris-based Michele Desvigne Paysagistes; Hargreaves Associates; and a team including Dutch firm West 8 were also selected.
