Two Bills in Michigan

LANSING, Mich.-Two bills were recently signed into law that affects Landscape Contractors in Michigan.

Senate Bill No. 1063, is a proposal that extends the funding for the Michigan Groundwater Stewardship Program from November 22, 2000 through December 31, 2010. This voluntary program provides education, technical assistance, applied research and cost sharing programs for the protection of groundwater. The funds are generated by an assessment on fertilizer and pesticide registration fees and are used primarily by fertilizer and pesticide users.

Senate Bill No. 1063 was enacted as Public Act 100.

House Bill No. 4865 and House Bill No. 4846 will amend the requirements of the Motor Carrier Safety Act and Michigan Vehicle Code governing brakes and trailers. The surge brake package will permit trailers with a gross vehicle weight or gross vehicle rating of up to 15,000 lbs., or a trailer/vehicle combination of up to 26,000 lbs., to be equipped with surge brakes for intrastate operations.

These bills became Public Act 214.
