LAKE ARROWHEAD, Ca. ?EUR??,,????'??+ Last month Governor Gray Davis officially signed a proclamation declaring a state of emergency in Lake Arrowhead. The reason: a massive infestation of bark beetles further intensified by the recent drought. The Western bark beetle is responsible for the deaths of ten of thousands of trees in the Lake Arrowhead area. According to Davis, ?EUR??,,????'??Trees on more than 150,000 acres have died and an estimated 75,000 residents are threatened by catastrophic wildfire, injury, and property damage from falling trees. My action provides landowners with the regulatory relief necessary to quickly remove dead and dying trees from their property.?EUR??,,????'?? Further more, San Bernardino County has received a federal Hazard Mitigation grant $2.6 million to help deal with the issue. However, it is doubtful that the grant will cover the costs. The local government is looking into the possibility of a tree removal tax to assist in the efforts.
