Participants in American Forests' program to demonstrate how to reduce heat-island effects in urban environments, TreeUtah will choose four "Cool Communities" demonstration sites in Salt Lake City. TreeUtah's program manager, Camille Russell, says heightening awareness of the relation of trees and lighter building surfaces to lower energy costs will encourage builders to incorporate both into their plans, enhancing global cooling. TreeUtah will also monitor energy and air-quality benefits.
