Georgetown University McDonough Bus Turnaround

Submission by Rhodeside & Harwell, Inc. (RHI)
by Staff

RHI was selected by Georgetown University to lead a multi-disciplinary team in the development of a new campus entrance and transit plaza. RHI's tasks included schematic design, design development, construction documents and construction administration for this significant campus open space that integrates the existing Library Walk with a more inspiring entrance to the university while serving as a hub for pedestrian and transit circulation routes.

The landscape design contains many sustainable features including permeable unit pavers, a rain garden with native plantings and artful drainage runnels that visually express water movement in the plaza. Highlights of this new campus landscape also includes new tree plantings, site furnishings, bus shelters, LED lighting, flexible open space to serve University events, and a raised seating plinth to feature the University mascot.

The upcoming School & Campus Design Issue of Landscape Architect and Specifier News saw many firms submit their projects for feature consideration. This project was not chosen for a Feature in the issue, but we at LandscapeArchitect.com thought the project deserved to be showcased online . . .
