Although geofoam is primarily known for its use in transportation projects, it is also making waves within the landscape industry. Geofoam is approximately 100 times lighter than most soil, which makes it an attractive replacement fill material. It can be used for foundations, concrete decks, creating green roofs, side-hill fills and embankments reducing lateral pressure and axial loads on structures.

Geofoam can be manufactured to precisely meet design requirements, according to ACH Foam Technologies, a manufacturer of expanded polystyrene (EPS), or simply geofoam. The company provides products for construction, geotechnical, packaging and industrial applications.
