Galen Drake, ASLA, CPESC, LEED AP, Named Arizona's Landscape Architect of the Year

The Arizona chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (AzASLA) has named senior landscape architect Galen Drake "Arizona Landscape Architect of the Year." Drake is employed by Stantec in its Phoenix office.

Drake was selected by a panel of industry peers who reviewed a slate of nominees from throughout Arizona for the AzASLA's annual awards gala. The award recognizes 30 years of industry experience on notable Arizona projects, and service in promoting the profession to area high schools.

Among the notable projects recognized by the committee were Drake's efforts in supporting the Arizona Department of Transportation on various large-scale rural highway projects. Drake has also provided design support on more than 30 parks and recreational facilities throughout the Southwest, providing local planning, planting design insights, irrigation systems, and construction techniques.

Within his community, Drake recently served as co-chair of the ACE Legacy Project at Metro Tech High School in Phoenix, which teaches horticulture program students about the tenets of agriculture planning, design and maintenance by building and sustaining a demonstration garden. He was also recognized for his leadership and participation within the AzASLA chapter.

Drake is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-accredited professional and a graduate of the University of Arizona, where he earned his bachelor's degree in landscape architecture.
