Experts at the National Research Council released their report, The Future Role of Pesticides in U.S. Agriculture, which discusses recently developed pesticides and their impact.
The report concludes that "societal concerns, scientific advances, and regulatory pressures have driven and continue to drive some of the more hazardous products from the marketplace." New environmentally friendly pesticides still face the same problems of conventional pesticides, including resistance from targeted species and harm to non-targeted species. Because of this, the group stressed the continued need for multiple pest-control tactics.
Recommendations included speeding up approval of improved pesticides, more research that would benefit organic gardeners, and more funding from the NSF and EPA for research
