FSPA Pulls Pool Contractor Bill

The change proposed by the FSPA would have removed the state license requirement for subcontractors and helped the industry professionals keep their costs down by allowing the use of subcontractors instead of having to hire them as employees.

The Florida Swimming Pool Association (FSPA) removed from legislative consideration the bill that would have changed FS 489 to benefit swimming pool contractors.

Now, FS 489 requires that all subcontractors either have a pool contractor?EUR??,,????'???s license or be an employee of the swimming pool contractor (some jurisdictions do have specialty licenses for subs). This requirement will now remain in place and be enforceable by building officials for at least another year. Early in the 2005 session, the legislature voted not to support either bill proposed by FSPA.
