From The Publisher April 1998 Mark your calendars for this coming July 2nd . . . Not only is it a great time to visit your friends in Southern California or to bring your family to Disneyland-- but for all you business owners, partners and principals it's time to join LASN at the Irvine, CA Marriott for the Landscape Architectural Technical Exposition (the L.A.T.E. The Business of Landscape Architecture is the running theme of this full day exposition featuring seminars, exhibitors, an ongoing computer workshop, an open forum on Licensure, a CLASS Fund Luncheon and a Keynote address from Mr. Owen Lang, ASLA, Principal of the San Francisco office of Sasaki Associates who, because of his extensive work throughout California, was nominated by the city of San Diego as one of the "Top 50 People to Watch" across the nation (the only landscape architect to make this prestigious national list.) The Seminars will focus on helping you run your business and will include accounting, liability, marketing, public relations, project bidding and presentations. The seminars will be presented by such well known professionals as liability expert Jim Leatzow of Leatzow & Associates; Rogers & Associates Marketing & Public Relations (whose most prominent client is Environmental Industries/Valley Crest); and real estate and newspaper writer Kay Tiller whose award winning PR firm has worked for such notables as Myrick-Neuman-Dahlberg, Inc.; Neuman-Jackson-Bieberstein, Inc.; the Texas Chapter of ASLA; Bomanite International; the Irish Tourist Board; and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board. The all-day open Computer Workshop will be headed by Professor Scott Weinberg, FASLA of the University of Georgia and will feature the latest computer design applications from Eaglepoint, Diehl Graphsoft, AutoCAD and more . . . The California Landscape Architectural Student Scholarship (CLASS) Fund will host a luncheon of which the proceeds go towards a perpetual endowment that already surpasses $575,000 and last year provided more than $24,500 to student scholarships . . . The Open Forum on licensure-- guided by California Landscape Architects Advisory Council Member David Tatsumi of Tatsumi & Associates-- will feature several top authorities on the issue of Landscape Architectural Licensure who will discuss the current trends towards practice act enforcement and board consolidations . . . The keynote address will be delivered by Mr. Owen Lang, ASLA, a principal for the San Francisco office of Sasaki Associates, Inc., who among many accomplishments in the landscape architectural community has been honored for his role as project manager in the planning of San Diego's waterfront "North Embarcadero Alliance" leading the charge to create a signature waterfront for San Diego. Mr. Lang will discuss the growing possibilities for the professional practitioner as the profession approaches its hundredth year anniversary and steps into the new millennium. To round out the event, a select group of exhibitors will be allowed to present their wares in the main meeting room . . . If you own or operate a landscape architectural practice, this one-day event will help to guide you into a more prosperous business. Seminars are $49.00 per session-- or for only $195.00 you can attend all 5 seminars and the CLASS Fund Luncheon as well as the Computer Workshop, the Open Forum on Licensure and the Exhibits.
