From The Publisher December 1999 Oh what a year, What a year it has been We've met many people and made some new friends We've lost a few great ones, some dear to our hearts Oh what a year . . . Just where does one start Been two thousand years Since a God/man named Jesus Was born in a manger Our souls, here to seize us And whether you think that it's fiction or true The calendar bears out its impact on you But this year . . . Things were much different. Way back in January we caught our first clues The last year of this century would have a few blues Remember the crazies who shot up the Sphinx? Chechnya, Serbia All of it stinks And what of the Market it soared past ten grand Up again down again where will it land? And will there be Wall Street on One, One Oh, Oh? I'm pretty sure yes, but what do I know Yes . . . Things are much different. At LASN We lost a few too, Our Dear Friend Kay Tiller, was special its true. Our Editor, Lebus Took Motherhood's call We've a whole new rotation, A new office, et. al. The ASLA turned 100 I'm told Now on to the future Our shoulders back, bold Growth is the issue Expansion the key At two thousand and twenty Just where will we be. The Doctors are like you, So the metaphor goes But the Architects are the ones, out to step on your toes. For the grass must be greener or no one would care If after the building, The landscape was bare The sprawl of creation is now at a point Where politic pollsters can stink up the joint The answer just cannot be Build'em sky high Pack'em together To save a rare fly Oh sure at the rainforest It's time to slow down And develop the land With a plan that is sound That's why the LA Is important to all All over the world you can answer the call For today . . . Things are much different. Now into the sunset the world turns again It needs you, It wants you To be a best friend And whether or not we'll see Christ again soon Surely tomorrow will be much different . . . .
