To help residents identify what aspects of their landscaped property can be changed to conserve water and reduce runoff, the task force has developed a free Landscape Sustainability Audit. Residents will choose from a list of approved landscape contractors to help them identify where they can make changes. The pilot program will target 60 households. Each resident who implements recommendations from the audit could save an average of 31,400 gallons of water per year or $157 in reduced water bills.
Such programs can help generate new business for landscape contractors, as homeowners become more educated on the benefits of switching to green landscapes.
