Four senators on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee have introduced the Water Infrastructure Financing Act of 2009. This legislation would authorize $39 billion in funding for wastewater and drinking-water infrastructure, control combined sewer overflows and begin a program to restrict pollution from farms.

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), chair of the committee and Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) are sponsoring the bill, along with Sen. Benjamin Cardin (D-MD) and Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID).

The bill introduced this week would authorize $20 billion over five years for wastewater infrastructure through the Clean Water Act State Revolving Loan Fund (SRF). It would also authorize $15 billion over five years for drinking-water infrastructure under the Safe Drinking Water Act SRF. ?EUR??,,????'??? Courtesy of American Society of Civil Engineers
