Back in August of 2017, an employee of Focal Pointe LLC. in Lake Worth, Florida, was atop a metal ladder when his metal hedge trimmer came in contact with an exposed high-voltage power line.

According to police, the man was not wearing any safety equipment, and suffered a fatal electrical shock. Another worker was holding the base of the ladder and also received a shock, however not fatal.

The first man was quickly taken to St. Mary's Medical Center where he was pronounced dead; the other employee was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.

OSHA cited the landscaping company for three violations, amounting to a total fine of $25,868. The violations and fines incorporated in the total are as follows: $3,880 for failing to require eye protection while trimming trees, $9,054 for not making employees "familiar with the safety-related work practices" that "pertained to their respective job assignments," and, $12,934 for having an employee work within 10 feet of an exposed power line.
