A new variation of Muscari called the 'grape hyacinth' has been created. Although the flower is available from Holland in white and green, its true color is still blue. Its English name 'grape hyacinth' may have derived from the fact that when you hold it upside down, it resembles a bunch of grapes. The latest blue variety called "Superstar", has a stronger scent than its predecessors. Also, it has broader leaves and its upper flowers are slightly bluer than the lower flowers.

This new variety was bred in Holland by nurseryman Jan van Bentium. Buyers are advised to purchase the flowers when the lower three to five rows of flowers are open. It is best to store them at 35-40 degrees Fahrenheit. With proper care, Muscari will keep for six to ten days.
