Washington, D.C. ?EUR??,,????'??+ The Commission of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), the professional institute of the American Planning Association (APA), has named Chandra Foreman, AICP, of Tampa, Fla., to fill the Region 3 seat vacated by Gail Easley. Foreman, a research associate with the University of South Florida's Center for Urban Transportation Research, was the commission's unanimous choice to complete Easley's term, which expires in 2004. "Ms. Foreman's appointment offers the unique opportunity to bring to the commission the perspective of our younger members," AICP President Dan Lauber, said. "Equally important, she is already practicing the sort of sound, ethical, inclusionary planning that the AICP commission seeks to make the norm rather than the exception." Originally, Foreman had sent a letter to Lauber volunteering to serve on several AICP committees, but commissioners were so compelled by the letter they asked her to consider filling the vacant Region 3 seat. Foreman, who holds a master's degree in planning from Florida State University, currently is researching the equitable distribution of public transportation resources. "Many communities are 'going through the motions' to meet regulations, but are not practicing equitable distribution," Foreman said. "I do not believe that there is another profession better equipped to tackle this issue. I sincerely want to be a part of a group that has the guts and the resources to address it."
