Vila & Son, founded in 1984, grew from a small, family-owned Miami business to support eight locations throughout Florida and 200-acres of statewide nursery and tree farms. The company was No. 1 on the South Florida Business Journal’s 2009 list. The company had $47 million in revenue in 2007, $62.5 million in 2008, $53.8 million in 2009 and $45.9 million in 2010. Vila & Son ranked 18th this year on the list of the largest companies in the industry.

Several months ago, Vila & Son announced it was laying off all 650 of its employees. Now, after not find a buyer, the company is forced to sell its equipment, valued between $3 million and $5 million.

Vila & Son was heavily dependent on new construction, but also offered maintenance, irrigation, tree care and lighting services.
