Firms of Florida - JMorton Planning and Landscape

Palm Beach Gardens, Florida

Cobblestone Commons, Boynton Beach, Florida
Approved as the first Multiple Use Planned Development (MUPD) in Palm Beach County's Agriculture Reserve, Cobblestone Commons was designed to not only provide much needed services to the county's western communities but help define the character of the area. JMorton was responsible for community outreach, site plan design, entitlements and landscape design services to complete the vision. Designed to emulate a tree-lined streetscape theme along the primary access drives, the shopping plaza provides amenities such as a central courtyard, decorative pavers, and generous planting areas. Working with the local neighborhood groups, JMorton was successful in not only designing a great product for our client, but also providing the community with a space that reflected their vision.

JMorton successfully designed and received land use and zoning approvals for Cottonwood, a multi-family development located along a major thoroughfare and commercial corridor. The complex was designed to cluster the buildings around a central courtyard and pool amenity area, provide green spaces for residents and connect to a small commercial plaza located adjacent to the site.
Riviera Country Club, Coral Gables, Florida
Securing the entitlements was a critical aspect of the planning services provided to Riviera Country Club. JMorton developed a site plan that significantly increased the overall parking while creating better pedestrian circulation and connectivity between the various amenities. A thoughtfully designed hardscape sets the stage as it subtly guides guests through the grounds. Accent paver patterns along the grand entrance drive mark the path to the clubhouse porte cochere. The clubhouse outdoor dining court features a thin set tile in a color matching the pool deck pavers. Low voltage landscape lighting illuminates select trees and accent plant groupings for dramatic effect and aids in way finding at night.
Williams Island, Aventura, Florida
Ready for a refresh, the Tennis Club's Island Grill Cafe selected JMorton to design a plan to renovate their grounds. Integrating mature growth plant material with strategic upgrades to the hardscape and landscape brought new life to the facility. The grand arrival is shaded by a large, old growth Banyan street tree, backed by Date Palms that line the entry drive and frame the porte cochere. Decorative pavers accentuate the club's entrance and drop-off while subtly differentiating between vehicular and pedestrian areas. The tumbled limestone pavers for pedestrian areas are set at right angles to the building and are bordered by a beige soldier course. The porte cochere utilizes the same tumbled limestone paver stones turned on a 45-degree angle with a beige solider course that creates a similar grid pattern. The landscape around the porte cochere mixes well with the site sourced coquina field stone. The shrub beds are filled with native and tropical plant selections possessing variegated and broad-leafed accent plants to provide year-round color and visual interest.

As a land planning and landscape architecture firm, it is our mission to ensure a positive client experience. Recognized equally for our thoughtful, creative landscape and hardscape design, especially in the country club market, and our land planning and zoning expertise, JMorton provides clients full service, personal experience from the simplest tree removal review for a municipality to the more complex master planning and comprehensive land plan amendments.

Editor's Note: With the ASLA annual meeting and EXPO in Miami canceled this year due to safety concerns amid the COVID-19 health pandemic, LASN still wanted to highlight the landscape architectural work of firms from the southeast region. LASN asked the firms to send us a short biographical profile, plus photography from selected projects, with a brief description of the design work for each project. We let the firms speak for themselves in their profiles and in describing the projects, although some editing was required because of space restraints and not all photography and projects could be included. Thank you, firms of Florida and Alabama for participating!

As seen in LASN magazine, September 2020.
