Ritz Golf and Ritz Sign, Bradenton, Florida
Working on a wonderfully conceived Tom Fazio golf course, it was everyone's intent to create a truly memorable golfing experience thoughtfully augmented with a blended harmony of native and flowering plants. To establish the exclusivity anld desirability of a Ritz Carlton amenity, we designed a very natural looking entry monument and accompanying waterfall to highlight the entry/arrival experience.
Boca Grove Golf Clubhouse, Boca Raton, Florida
As part of designing the overall community, the golf clubhouses and golf courses are an important part of the overall package and often set the tone for the quality of the whole community.

Going against the accepted standards for the size of an entry feature, we illustrated that designed cohesively and properly scaled to be read from a realistic distance, we could create a pleasing feature harmonious with the design intent of any municipality, and in scale with a 2,400-acre community.
The Estuary Entry and Wetland, Naples, Florida
With a naturalistic name, our intent was to make the arrival sequence memorable, and in harmony with a naturalistic environment. Even the specialty paving featured natural colors such as cream, sand and green. We also turned a farm field into a wetland, thus encouraging the biodiversity healthy to this and all native environments.
Treviso Bay, Naples, Florida
Designed as the entry for a multi-million dollar suspension bridge, it was intended to establish this neighborhood as the home of the most desirous housing and amenities.

Formed in 1972 in Miami, the company is currently comprised of myself, Bruce Howard, a landscape architect for 48 years and principal of the firm, and my son Brannan, who is my partner and recently received his L.A. license. He has been working with me for over 15 years and runs the business. Our greatest strength is our integration of the project's main elements into a cohesive, synergistic natural environment. Our features are designed with the landscaping as an integral element of the hardscape so they blend seamlessly. Our free-flowing naturalistic environments combine plants with compatible water and soil needs as well as textures and sizes. All projects have the benefit of our many years of experience and all elements are reviewed on site to make sure the design and execution are in the client's and project's best interests. Our firm utilizes Autocad, Photoshop and Land Effects to accomplish our work. To offer our clients the most realistic images, we often work with professional renderers.

Editor's Note: With the ASLA annual meeting and EXPO in Miami canceled this year due to safety concerns amid the COVID-19 health pandemic, LASN still wanted to highlight the landscape architectural work of firms from the southeast region. LASN asked the firms to send us a short biographical profile, plus photography from selected projects, with a brief description of the design work for each project. We let the firms speak for themselves in their profiles and in describing the projects, although some editing was required because of space restraints and not all photography and projects could be included. Thank you, firms of Florida and Alabama for participating!

As seen in LASN magazine, September 2020.
