Lakefront Park, Kissimmee, Florida
AECOM lead the master planning and design for this 25-acre waterfront park. This $31 million investment strengthens the relationship of Lake Tohopekaliga (Lake Toho) to the downtown and provides a variety of community engagement opportunities. Streets have been removed and realigned for safe and easy access to the lake. Large areas for redevelopment have been planned to front the new brick streets that line the park boundary. These pipe-less streets convey runoff to planted stormwater basins via flumes that border portions of the park. These basins are a part of a larger treatment-train of planted with native grasses and can be traversed by boardwalks throughout the park. Interpretive signage helps educate the public about the importance of treating stormwater at the source. As a result of inclusive and thoughtful design, this project has received several design and engineering awards for placemaking and innovations in green infrastructure such as the Award of Excellence from the Florida Chapter ASLA, Florida Stormwater Association, Palm Beach Chapter AIA and Central Florida Eagle Award.

Eustis Streetscapes, Eustis, Florida
We prepared a Downtown Vision Master Plan that outlined projects for the city to act on and implement in their downtown as well as urban design, transportation and landscape architecture services. This streetscape project serves as the first piece of that revitalization vision. The historic downtown four blocks of a small downtown retail district have been improved by converting one-way traffic to two way, introducing brick streets, on-street parking, trees, lighting, street furniture and artwork. These improvements help create a rich and vibrant space for future retailers to open businesses and attract visitors. Today the downtown has seen new restaurants move in, new apartments built and occupied and a reenergized sense of place.

Nemours Children's Hospital, Orlando, Florida
Throughout the design process, Nemours had an early and consistent commitment to its patients, staff and visitors. This commitment lead to a design created by families, for families and world class patient care. The creation of an outdoor environment centered on healing, respite and therapy was also important to families. As a result of site landscape restoration, healing gardens and views to the natural landscape from patient rooms, this hospital has been named "a hospital in a garden". Upon arrival to the hospital, the visitor is immersed in a lush landscape environment that includes native plants, large live oaks, flowering trees and varying textures and colors throughout the plant palette. A large water feature, that filters stormwater, marks the entrance to the hospital. Once inside the hospital, large windows frame the Discovery Garden located on the north side of the hospital. This garden includes programmable spaces for small events and outdoor dining, while providing a respite from the busy indoor environment. This hospital also includes two roof gardens. One garden is designed and programmed to provide a quiet retreat from the hospital's interior while the other garden provides elements for physical therapy.

South Battery Park City Resiliency, New York City, New York

 
The South Battery Park Resiliency project illustrates how landscape architecture as resiliency infrastructure can build the physical, social, and economic resiliency within a dense urban environment by integrating flood risk reduction and public waterfront amenities. The legacy of Wagner park will be incorporated into the project while "hiding" the flood protection and preserving views and access to the waterfront. In other areas, a system of flip-up flood gates will deploy during flood events.

Tampa Riverwalk, Tampa, Florida
AECOM has been involved in various aspects of the Riverwalk's development from its inception in the late 1980s - starting with participation in the development of Riverwalk Design Guidelines, following with the PD&E study, environmental planning documents, and the design and construction documents for four built segments of the 1.9-mile Riverwalk. These include the award-winning segment of Riverwalk traversing the City of Tampa's Cotanchobee Park in the Channelside District, the segment under the Platt Street Bridge connection to the Tampa Convention Center, and the segment adjacent to the Marriott Waterside Hotel. Most recently, we completed the design of the Doyle Carlton Segment (2,000 LF), a USDOT TIGER IV Grant project.
