The design team at Upland Design began a master plan project with the Batavia Park District in 2006 for a 32-acre undeveloped site. The firm met with neighbors, community recreation groups and an adjacent residential facility for developmentally disabled adults. Input from these groups set the design goals. Above all, the site was to be a family-fitness oriented site with high accessibility throughout.
Peck Farm has become a community gem with its historic farmstead along with native prairie and wetlands. To enhance the area and provide an outdoor meeting space, Upland Design created a classroom-size overlook deck on the north side of Peck Lake. The materials include recycled lumber deck and rails along with concrete piers. Interpretive signage and built-in benches make the space a place for all to enjoy.
