Mill Creek in Kane County, Ill. is a neo-traditional development that demonstrates large-scale cluster planning, showcasing various housing types and numerous recreational amenities, all within walking distance of the Village Center. Recreation, shopping, churches, parks, and related services are located within the development. This creative design was accomplished while protecting 1.5 miles of the Mill Creek corridor, considered one of the most pristine waterways in the region. The project demonstrates excellence in planning and landscape architectural design.
Midwest Groundcovers is one of the largest suppliers of groundcover, perennials and landscape supplies in the Midwest, serving seven states with plant material and landscape supplies. Approximately 80 acres of Midwest Groundcovers?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'???? operation is being lost to condemnation, consequently the company has relocated to a new site in Virgil, Ill. The Lannert Group was hired as the planning consultant to assist in condemnation case, to obtain the special use as required at the new 240-acre site, process the application and develop the overall master plan, landscape plans and subsequently site development plans.
As part of the overall grading and site development plan, a series of vegetated swales were designed to convey the irrigation and storm water runoff into a series of detention basins, filtering the runoff downstream before allowing any discharge into the existing drainage-way.
The master plan included five phases. Phase one began construction in the fall of 2001. The remaining phases could take five to eight years to complete. Midwest Groundcovers and Midwest Trading Company have remained operational throughout the land condemnation and now enjoy a state of the art facility.
As a consultant to the Village of New Lenox, the Lannert Group led a series of community sessions and created a site plan for New Lenox Commons that develops a unifying identity. The new village hall, library, park district recreation center, restaurants, office and commercial spaces are arranged around a public commons and linked by sidewalks, bike paths and roads. The public commons in the center includes play fountains, multi-level plazas, a veteran?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s memorial, performance pavilion, gazebo and a perennial garden. This variety of activity and focal points assures New Lenox a vibrant center for their growing community.
