Site Design Group, Ltd. was founded in Chicago in 1990 by principals Ernest Wong, ASLA and Robert Sit, AIA. The award-winning firm has established its identity in the city by their ability to translate and transcend fresh design ideas into the urban environment. The firm is committed to a culture of design excellence and community leadership. Each project brings a measure of social responsibility, sustainable accountability and land stewardship.
The Park at Lakeshore East and Ping Tom Memorial Park have raised the bar for urban park design and are now major regional destinations. These places continue to have a positive physical, social and economic impact on the surrounding neighborhoods. Through strong community alliances the firm has solidified the role of landscape architecture in the future planning for schools, transportation, housing, healthcare and higher education campus design.
The centerpiece of the award-winning development, the Park at Lakeshore East serves as the focal point of this 20-acre urban infill development. Winner of the 2002 AIA Urban Design Award, the 2005 Illinois ASLA Design-Public Award, and the 2006 Texas ASLA Design Award, the park space defines the new neighborhood as a ?EUR??,,????'?????<?????????????????green oasis?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????????? at the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. In collaboration with the office of James Burnett, the park is designed with sweeping water features that frame the great lawn and gardens. Circulation through the park was carefully planned along the north/south axis and accommodates a series of terraces at the south grand stairs. Playgrounds with interactive water play and a special dog-friendly area serve the neighborhood residents. Gardens and specialty paving create a passive and elegant setting that will embrace the new neighborhood in Chicago?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s growing downtown.
The first of several planned riverfront parks south of Chicago?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s Loop, this park was envisioned by the late civic leader Ping Tom to be a community enclave of beautiful rolling greenspaces, safe play areas for the community?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s children and a cultural facility for the Chinatown community and the city of Chicago. As an answer to the growing Chinese community?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s need for open greenspace and recreational facilities, Mayor Richard Daley directed the Chicago Park District to design and develop this former railway site into a full service park facility. photos: Ron Gordon Photography
