Moline Prospect Park Renovations Master Plan and Phases 1-3, Moline

The city wanted to develop a master plan to revitalize historic Prospect Park. The park has an old oak grove, native prairie area with native grasses and wild flowers, a Victorian-era pavilion, a fishing lake and a warming shelter used by ice skaters in the winters and anglers fishing in the summer. The hilly terrain of the Mississippi bluffs area lends itself to sledding in the winter and challenging walking trails the rest of the year. Shive-Hattery provided a rendering for restoration of the historic pavilion and conceptual layout for fitness/walking trails, prairie restoration and proposed site amenities such as benches, decorative light poles, perennial/annual flower beds, a fountain in the fishing pond and vehicular parking lot reconfiguration/expansion.

Phase one was the design and completion of the two-acre fishing pond and pathways. Phase two renovated the Victorian-era pavilion. Phase three was the walking and fitness trails, an 18-hole disc (Frisbee) golf course, improved visitor parking, a gazebo for weddings, interpretive wayfinding and physical fitness trail signage. Benches, drinking fountains, along with native plantings and wild flowers were all major parts of this phase.
