JJR provides complete planning and design services through an interdisciplinary approach that team’s landscape architects, planners, urban designers, civil engineers and environmental scientists. The firm has over 125 full-time staff in Ann Arbor, Chicago, Madison, Phoenix and Washington, D.C. Landscape architects comprise a quarter of the staff and 40 percent are LEED accredited. JJR provides campus, health and research, waterfront, city/community, property development and park & recreation services.

The firm places a high value on innovation. Its equation is research + critical thinking = innovative design.

The firm’s award winning projects include Crosswinds Marsh Interpretive Preserve, Mich., an ASLA President’s Award of Excellence winner, and Lost Dog Wash, Ariz., a 2008 ASLA Honor Award winner. Six of the firm’s projects have received ASLA Centennial Medallions.

Information Commons, Loyola University, Chicago

JJR has worked at Loyola University since the late 1980s, most recently working on the greening of the campus with the Information Comments, a LEED Silver Certified project. This new facility completes a quadrangle to create an essential open space on the urban campus. JJR created an innovative stormwater infiltration system, green roof system, and native landscaping along the shoreline.

 




Detroit Riverwalk, Detroit, Mich.

JJR was retained by the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy (DFRC) to design over 2-miles of a pathway and promenade along the Detroit River that provides community access, as well as a destination along the city’s gem – the Detroit River. The Riverwalk functions as the connecting ribbon between existing landmark elements, as well as creating a place for new amenities and a host of programming opportunities. The Riverwalk has become a major amenity attracting investors and new residents who will live, work and play in the newly planned East Riverfront District.

 




Dallas Center for the Performing Arts, Dallas, Texas

In an achievement befitting the state of Texas, the Dallas philanthropic community has raised over $300 million to create the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts. Hiring the world’s best design and technical talent JJR, teamed with Michel Desvigne of Paris, is creating a grand park-like setting uniting the Winspear Opera House by Foster and Partners and the Wyly Theatre by OMA/REX. The site also features an exterior performance space, Annette Strauss Artist Square.

These are two significant cultural additions to the Dallas Arts District, joining the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, the Meyerson Symphony Center, and the newly renovated Booker T. Washington Arts Magnet High School. In addition, the City Performance Hall will also be located in the district.
