The Ives/Ryan Group (I/RG) is a 36-year old design-consulting firm that provides landscape architecture, park and recreation design, site and community planning and golf course architecture. I/RG?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s staff of six landscape architects has participated on a wide range of project types in 20-states and received 46-design awards from such organizations as the ASLA and the U.S. EPA. I/RG founder John Ryan has been twice honored at the White House with the National Landscape Award.
I/RG?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s focus is the provision of creative design services that provide realistic, sustainable, functional and economically viable environments. Many of I/RG?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s more recent projects have received LEED or Chicago Green Homes Certification.
I/RG transformed a 200-acre landfill and former brick factory site into a popular community park for Munster in northern Indiana. The former brick factory?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s clay borrow pit was reshaped/graded into a 12-acre lake with vegetated shorelines and aquatic shelves with two pedestrian bridge crossings. A boardwalk surrounds a fishing/ice skating lagoon and a public art promenade. At the south end of the pond is a two-story municipal clubhouse/social center and parking area designed for LEED silver certification. An amphitheater with terraced seating is at the pond?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s midpoint. Additional elements include a snow tubing hill, off-leash dog park, botanic gardens, trail system and native grasslands buffers. In 2008 Centennial Park received the McGraw-Hill Midwest Construction magazine?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s Best Design & Construction Project Award, Public Works.
I/RG assisted in creating a healthful living environment for a 287-unit luxury resort-style senior living complex in northwest Chicago. The lush landscaping offers many plants familiar to the senior residents plus walking paths, a pond with gazebo, a parking deck rooftop garden and a party/rec area.
The highlight is a seven-story 18,000 sq. ft. interior rainforest atrium that many of the rooms open onto. I/RG designed dense tropical plantings, simulated rock outcroppings, a heated therapeutic waterfall, mineral spa/pool, fish pond with waterfall, sidewalk caf????????(R)???????+???????(R)???????(C), lecture space, sitting areas, game tables and walking areas. A HVAC system maintains temperature and humidity levels, plus there is computerized lighting. The 18-tropical trees (30?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????-40?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'???? tall) include Adonidia palms, weeping figs and black olives, with 180-midstory tropicals, 2,700 (60-species) of smaller tropical plants and vines, all imported from Fla. and Ga. There are 224 balcony planters that extend up six stories on the atrium periphery.
Residents and caregivers report dramatic improvement of allergy and asthma conditions. In 2001-2002 The Park at Vernon Hills rainforest received two national and two state awards.
I/RG has been retained by the South Chicago suburb of South Holland for the past four years to assist in the redevelopment planning of the Village?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s central core. The redevelopment master plan, covering approximately nine-blocks, includes a future Metro train station, new areas of medium and high density residential housing, and a commercial area centered on a new boulevard street connecting with the existing municipal building complex.
Additional detailed design was performed for streetscape beautification of the South Park Avenue commercial district and the renovation of the 22-acre Veterans Community Park.
The completed Veterans Park improvements include a formal gateway entrance; 2-tournament level baseball fields; the Park Central building, a 2-story concession/restroom/press box and special events room building centered between the ball fields; playgrounds; a naturalized detention pond/constructed wetland; and an operations building and walkway system with benches and lighting. Future master planned improvements include an outdoor amphitheater, multiple picnic pavilions, gazebo, bocce ball courts, riverwalk and nature center, memorial gardens, public art and a water feature. In 2008 the Veterans Park detention pond and wetland area received a U.S. EPA & Chicago Wilderness award for conservation & natural landscaping.
