Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects’ range of work includes designing retail environments, academic campuses, corporate landscapes, streetscapes and residential gardens that are regularly featured in national design publications. Based in Chicago, this firm is recognized for the design of iconic Chicago spaces that include the Magnificent Mile, North Burnham Park at Soldier Field, Daley Center Plaza and the City Garden at Garfield Park Conservatory. Their award-winning portfolio includes projects throughout the U.S. as well as China, Canada and Abu Dhabi.
Hoerr Schaudt has a talented staff of 35 professionals with expertise in landscape architecture, architecture, horticulture, sustainability and LEED requirements.
Hoerr Schaudt assisted the Chicago Park District in creating a world-class botanic destination on the grounds of the Garfield Park Conservatory. This urban garden draws upon the surrounding community’s re-emergence as well as the park’s historic roots, which include noted landscape pioneer, Jens Jensen. The garden uses free flowing planting design, sculpted landforms and pathway ribbons, rather than defined garden rooms, to create a rich botanical experience.
Ten floors above Michigan Avenue, condominium residents retreat to nearly 14,000 square feet of luxurious green, flowering landscape with spacious areas to entertain, grill out or simply unwind while absorbing dramatic views of Chicago’s exquisite skyline. Its environmental benefits blend with design qualities expected of a high-end amenity and changes what urban dwellers can expect from their city views. Height variety in plant material presents an unfolding experience from within the garden and creates shadow and depth throughout the seasons when viewed from above.
Located in the heart of Chicago, the garden for this urban residence balances the client’s desire to feel a connection to city life while maintaining a sense of privacy and space to appreciate natural beauty. Residents enjoy views of a courtyard, gravel garden and broad lawn from within their home throughout the seasons. A screened porch links the intimate gravel garden with the side garden, and is blanketed by a green roof that cools the open-air space in the summer.
